My Christmas Story

Today the song: ’Streets of London’ sung by Roger Whittaker, came alive for me. When eating out in fashionable restaurants at Covent Garden in the evening, it is easy to be oblivious to the homeless people who later curl up in each doorway, looking for shelter for the night – even in London’s deep winter. And are we aware that 30% of children in England are bought up below poverty line? At Salisbury School in Queens Park, London, parents donate groceries each Tuesday for the homeless. Bags of tins of canned food and toiletries are then delivered to the Parish Church of Brondesbury. Here a church charity provides food on...

Out of my Comfort Zone – but Great Learning

The last two days have been way out of my comfort zone, but there is lots of learning for me. Months ago I booked for our annual Reflexology NZ Conference to be held in Nelson 14/15/16 June. Our Waikato group have been talking about it and looking forward to spending time together. The highlight for me was a workshop with a reflexologist, about reflexology for critical care. Denis dropped me off at the airport ready for my 9am flight on Thursday – time to check in to the hotel, visit a friend, look at shops and settle in before tomorrow morning’s start. At Auckland airport thick fog delayed the flight...

Wayne Hackett Seminar Waihi Academy March 2019

The Wayne Hackett seminar was loved by all who attended. Wayne has a way of presenting to simplify and bring together everything in our text books  in a way to inspire us. He has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom gathered from his life and  40 years of Jin Shin Jyutsu. I loved his stories of Mary Burmeister. Combined with a great sense of humour and being a master teacher, Wayne had us spellbound during the 6 days. Wayne brings numerology and astrology to demonstrate relationships which further our understanding of the art. We learned so many practical applications and how to give the most effective treatments – and...

Paying Forward in Tauranga

Today when in Tauranga, a  lady retailer said to me ‘ A really special thing happened to us last night.’  The lady works a lot and said yesterday night she couldn’t really afford to go out for dinner but she wanted to spend time with her darling daughter. A few friends got together with their daughters and went for pizza from Phoenix on the Strand and had a lovely time. When she went to pay she was told an annonymous person had taken care of their bill. They couldn’t believe it and felt overcome. What a lovely world we live in and the evidence is when people do things like this.

A book review: Becoming the Shape of the Chair You Sit In by Barbara Mawson

I recently bought this book online after a client recommended it. And I am pleased I did. Barbara is a physiotherapist who has had a lifetime of results working in the area of spinal pain. It is a self-help book and is full of information, good sensible ideas with some humour and lots of tips for daily living – all easy to read. Great to see a few yoga asana in there too. After 40 years of working as a physiotherapist she certainly comes from a position of knowledge and wisdom. Lovely to see a NZ author with such powerful messages to share for all of us to prevent and...

World Abundance

Economics isn’t my field at all. But the big picture of abundance for the whole world’s population excites me. How cool is everyone being able to live with abundance and not poverty? I feel hopeful we are going down this global track of abundance for the whole world, not just abundance for some privileged people. An end to gobal, cheap and nasty products that put our local businesses out of business because they are so cheap; yet to be cheap – human lives are made miserable? An end to the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer? Amin Toufani is a director of strategy at a university in USA and is speaking at...

We Can Create Heaven on Earth

We can create heaven on earth… This is one of my favourite parts of the book ‘Karma for Today’s Traveller’ Floating in water. The pool represents our mental world. Every thought/intention we have sends waves out into this pool. All of these waves taken together, along with echoes of our old waves, form our mental environment. If we fill our mental environment with angry waves, then that is where our mind lives, seeing angry waves everywhere. Similarly if we use our mind wisely and compassionately, we will find our pool becoming clearer and more beautiful. The vista we see will be something to   behold. Our mental environment is up to...

Ready to Start Yoga?

Ready to Start Yoga?

How to Start Yoga Choose a time of day that suits you. If you are a morning person, first thing in the morning is great. Set your alarm clock for fifteen minutes earlier to start with. If you don’t enjoy an early start, it may be better for you to do yoga before you go to bed which will help you to sleep soundly and unload the day’s worries. Start with 10 minutes yoga each day I found over the years that I felt better after doing yoga in the morning instead of staying in bed no matter how tired I thought I was. When I did stay in...

Be Kind to our Feet in Winter

Be kind to our feet in winter It is easy to forget about our feet when they are tucked up in shoes or boots all day, then into slippers at home, then into bed for the night until it all starts again the next day. It can be out of sight and out of mind with our feet in winter. Even pedicures may be forgotten, which is sad because our toenails, cuticles and exfoliation still need attention. With a little nurturing during winter our feet will repay us tenfold. And what is nicer than a hot footbath on a cold winter’s night? Caring for our feet is both pampering and therapeutic....
